Saturday, May 6 marked the 2017 State Finals of The Quill, an on-demand writing competition for middle and high school students in North Carolina. The event was held at Lucas Middle School in Durham, and saw students answering prompts in Argumentation, Problem/Solution, Narrative (middle school), Creative Writing (high school), Informative/Explanatory (middle school), and Literary Analysis (high school).
In addition to the 90-minute on-demand writing session, students heard NC Poet Laureate Shelby Stephenson speak about his experiences as a poet and writer.
The following are our topped ranked schools and individual winners in each event:
