The Quill
Teams of four students must create written products given a prompt from a specific text type. The Quill is an original competition developed in cooperation with the North Carolina Reading Association (NCRA), and is aligned with Common Core standards.
Administration of the Regional Competitions for The Quill completed on February 20. Middle schools and high schools all over North Carolina competed at the Regional level for the chance to advance to the March 22 State Finals hosted by Atkins A&T High School in Winston-Salem. Schools qualifying for the State Final are shown below:

Northwood High School and Jay M Robinson Middle School take state titles.
NCASA held the third annual The Quill on demand writing competition on Saturday March 2 hosted by Lexington Senior High School. Finishing in first place among high schools with a final score of 91.0 was Northwood High School. Team members for Northwood High School are James Calhoun, Frances Beroset, Jacob Friedman, and Quinn Kerscher.
Finishing in second place was Northwest Guilford High School with 89.3 points. Finishing in third place with 86.4 points was Atkins A&T High School. Compete standings are shown below:

This was the first NCASA State Title for Northwood HS.
NCASA held the Regional Competition for The Quill on February 6-8. Students competed at their home schools and submissions were sent to the judges. The judges scored each submission and the results are as follows:

The top five schools from each region will advance to the March 2 State Final hosted by Lexington Senior High School.
Finishing close behind in second place was Lexington Senior High School with 89.7 points. Finishing in third place with 85.8 points was Newton Conover High School. Myers Park High School and WH Page High School rounded out the top five.

The North Carolina Association for Scholastic Activities held its first ever State Finals Saturday, February 26 in the General Classroom Building on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, NC. Finishing in FIRST PLACE in The Quill on-demand writing competition with a final score of 82.7 was Myers Park High School of Charlotte. Team members for Myers Park HS were Amanda Stroud, Kate Randazzo, Hassan DuRant, and Zoe Pruitt.
