Teams of twelve students tackle twelve topics with twelve questions each. Twelve is an original competition developed by the North Carolina Association for Scholastic Activities (NCASA).

Twelve Regional Results

More than 400 students from schools across North Carolina competed in the fifth annual Twelve Regional Competitions. Students were tested on their knowledge of the core curriculum plus wildcard topics including sports and NC Government.

Twelve - Overview

Twelve is a knowledge-based academic competition that challenges teams of students to answer questions covering a variety of subject areas. The competition is based primarily on the core curriculum. Twelve is an original competition developed by the North Carolina Association for Scholastic Activities (NCASA).

Twelve teams of twelve students each will tackle twelve topics with twelve questions each. Will your school be one of twelve to compete for the state championship of Twelve?


2014 UPDATE: Atkins High School in Winston-Salem, NC School of Science and Mathematics in Durham, and Central Middle School in Gates County will host Regional Competitions on November 22. Rogers-Herr Middle School will host the State Final on December 13.


High School Competition check-in will begin at 9:00 AM, kick-off at 9:45 AM. Middle School check-in will begin at 12:30 PM, kick-off at 1:15 PM.

Twelve - Study and Practice

Since Twelve is a contest that relies on a wide range of knowledge, the most effective practice will include questions of varying difficulty from various topics. It will also be helpful for students to practice using the tournament format and timing using the Presentations available for download.

Winston-Salem Schools take Twelve Titles

NCASA held the Twelve State Finals Saturday, December 13 at Rogers-Herr Middle School of Durham. The high school division was close most of the way but Simon G Atkins Academic and Technology High School (shown below) pulled away at the end and won by ten points over second place Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy.

Final standings:

1 - Atkins - 113 points

2 - Thomas Jefferson - 103

3 - Myers Park - 98

4 - STEM Early College at NC A&T - 89

5 - High Point Cen. - 87

6 - Hickory - 84

7t - Ardrey Kell and Cleveland - 72

9t - Northwood and Northwest Guilford - 67

Atkins earned perfect scores in the Calculus / Trigonometry, Literature, US History, and Grammar rounds.


Finishing in first place in the middle school division with a runaway victory was Hanes Magnet Middle School (shown below) who tallied 122 points.

Hanes earned perfect scores in the Technology, Earth Science, and US History rounds.
