Middle School of the Year Award Announced

The North Carolina Association for Scholastic Activities is proud to announce the North Carolina Middle School of the Year Award (MSOY).  The MSOY is analogous to the Wachovia Cup and the NCASA Scholastic Cup.  It is awarded to the best middle school in North Carolina based on their performance in the four major middle school team scholastic competitions. Here are our MSOY partners:

Like the NCASA Scholastic Cup, schools earn 5 points for participating in each competition. Schools can also earn 50 additional points for a first place finish in the state competition, 45 points for second place, and so on down to 5 points for a tenth place finish.

All North Carolina Middle Schools are eligible for this award.  Schools do not need to become NCASA members, and we do not currently accept middle school members. There is no fee associated with this award except the fees required to enter each competition.  Middle schools do not need to do anything to eligible for this award except participate in some or all of these partner competitions.  We will track schools' participation and success and recognize the Top Ten schools during our Annual Meeting next Spring.

The purpose of this award is to recognize and reward those middle schools that succeed in scholastic competitions.  There are many other wonderful scholastic competitions for middle school students including Battle of the Books, Future Cities Competition, National Geography Bee, National Spelling Bee, National History Day, and many more.  More information about these and other competitions can be found here.
