2011-2012 Twelve State Finals Results and Scholastic Cup Standings

For immediate release:

The North Carolina Association for Scholastic Activities held the Twelve State Finals Saturday, December 3 in the auditorium of Simon G. Atkins Academic and Technology High School in Winston-Salem. Finishing in first place with a runaway victory was Ardrey Kell High School of Charlotte who tallied 78 points.

 

Finishing in second place was Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy of Rutherford County with a final score of 62. Finishing close behind in third place with a final score of 61 was Myers Park High School of Charlotte. Also competing in the state finals were Jordan-Matthews HS of Siler City (56 pts), Simon G. Atkins HS of Winston-Salem (46 pts), Southern HS of Durham(39 pts), Early College of Forsyth (39 pts), and Lexington HS (36 pts). Congratulations to everyone who competed in the state finals.

New Scholastic Cup Partner

The North Carolina Chess Association is NCASA's eighth Scholastic Cup partner.  They join the NC Science Bowl as a new Scholastic Cup partner and these inaugural partners:

  • Envirothon
  • Odyssey of the Mind
  • Economics Challenge
  • Science Olympiad
  • Tarheel Forensic League
  • State Mathematics Contest

Schools earn Scholastic Cup points for participation and excellence in these and the four NCASA competitions.

New Middle School Scholastic Program

The North Carolina Association for Scholastic Activities is delighted to announce the addition of a middle school program for the 2012-2013 school year.

On January 23 the NCASA Board of Directors voted to add a comprehensive middle school scholastic program which will include the presentation of three to five competitions and a unique partnership with existing middle school level competitions. A committee composed of middle school principals, teachers, and scholastic directors is already working to develop the competitions NCASA will present to middle schools next year. Under consideration are Quiz Bowl, The Quill (a writing competition), Show Choir, Speech and Debate, a Visual Arts competition, and an NC / NC History based competition.

What's New for 2011?

NCASA has two new exciting programs for 2011. First, interested member schools will be placed into conferences to facilitate weekly Quiz Bowl matches. Second, we will present the North Carolina Glee Club Competition.
