Congratulations to Bull City Lights of Voyager Academy, Durham, our 2016 William Peace University NC Show Choir High School State Champion!

On Saturday April 16, twelve choirs from eleven high schools met to vie for the title of State Champion at the fifth annual William Peace University North Carolina High School Show Choir Competition held at Atkins A&T High School in Winston-Salem.  Choirs performed everything from Motown classics like “Soul Man” to Adele’s recent megahit “Hello.”  The competition followed a preliminaries-finals format, with the top six teams from the entire day moving on to the evening final.  A number of individual and specialty awards were also presented.

 Top 3 morning choirs were:

1- Hough High School

2- West Brunswick High School

3- Northeast Guilford

Top 3 afternoon choirs were:

1- Bull City Lights of Voyager Academy, Durham

2- Mitchell High School, Mitchell County

3- Triton High School, Erwin

The top three high schools from morning and afternoon were also our top scoring choirs and all advanced to the final.  Hough High School's Howlin' Huskies took State Runner Up, and Mitchell High's Show Choir took Second Runner Up.

Best Male Solo- Hank Ware, Myers Park High School

Best Female Solo- Grace Helms, West Brunswick High School

Best Male Stage Presence- Jordan Kelley, Bull City Lights, Voyager Academy

Best Female Stage Presence- Rachael Alvarez, Hough High School

Best Combo (awarded for live accompaniment)- Mitchell High School

Best Show Design- Mitchell High School

Best Choreography- Mitchell High School

Best Group Vocals- Bull City Lights, Voyager Academy

Best New Choir- Triton High School
