After an incredibly exciting day of tight competition, we're pleased to congratulate The Early College at Guilford, our High School State Champion, and Smith Middle School, our Middle School State Champion!

 

 

The North Carolina Association for Scholastic Activities is pleased to announce the winners of the 2018 Quiz Bowl State Final.  Congratulations to The Early College at Guilford, our High School State Champion, and Smith Middle School of Chapel Hill, our Middle School State Champion!  Students were quizzed on everything from Utah to gravity.  The top two middle and top two high schools will be invited to the NAQT Middle and High School National Quiz Bowl Championship Tournaments in May. 

In the high school final, EC Guilford (8-1) and NCSSM (8-1) were close through half-time, but Guilford pulled away in the second half to win 400-195. Raleigh Charter finished in third with a 7-1 record, Carrboro was fourth at 6-2.   The remaining top 10 standings are:

5 - SG Atkins (6-2)

6 - Providence (5-3)

7 - Thomas Jefferson (5-3)

8 - Myers Park (3-5)

9 - Western Guilford (4-4)

10 - Ledford (3-5)

11 - Northwest Guilford (4-4)

12 - High Point Central (2-6)

DH Conley, Wayne School of Engineering, Jordan-Matthews, and Ayden-Grifton also qualified and participated. 

In the final match for middle schools, Smith (7-0) dominated from question 1 and beat Seventy-First Classical Middle School (4-3) of Fayetteville 625-75. Jay M Robinson (4-3) and Metrolina Regional Scholars Academy (4-3), both of Charlotte, finished third and fourth respectively. The remaining top ten standings are:

5 - Thomas Jefferson (4-2)

6 - Brown Summit (3-3)

7 - Northwest Guilford (3-3)

8 - Academy at Lincoln (2-4)

9 - Ligon Magnet (3-3)

10 - Thales Academy (2-4)

Hope and Ayden also qualified and participated.
